 Materials

Plastic cup, 5 to 9 inch round Balloon, Pom poms, or roll up some paper into small balls if you don't have pom-poms, Scissors,

 Masking tape (optional)

To make it

Cut off the bottom of your plastic cup with scissors. Cut a coin-sized hole off the tip of the balloon, make it small at first, and adjust to fit tightly on the cup. Stretch over the end of the cup to seal it.

To secure the balloon to the cup, tape around the edge of the balloon and cup.

To play

Place pom-poms into the popper, carefully pull the neck of the balloon, and release it, the pom-pom should go flying!

Experiment with different size pom-poms. Let the kids pop theirs together to see who can get them the highest. Have one child pop the pom-poms and another child catch them.

a squirt bottle or, cupcake tin, storage tub.

To Start

Pour vinegar into the bottle. Place a drop of different colors of food coloring (optional ) into the bottom of each muffin tin. Add a teaspoon baking soda to cover the bottom of each muffin tin.

If you're outdoors you can opt-out of putting cupcake tin in a storage tub.  To keep things clean indoors put the cupcake tin into a storage tub.

Now for the fun

Let the kids squirt the vinegar into the muffin tins one at a time and watch the fizzing chemical reaction begin.

Try some muffin tins without the colors in them.

fun science lava project. kids party magic long islands fun entertainers.

Materials

A clear plastic or glass cup or bottle, Vegetable oil, Water, food coloring,

Alka-seltzer

What to do

Fill the bottle up about 1/4th (1 quarter) with water. Add the vegetable oil most of the way up. The water will stay on the bottom under the oil. Add a few drops of food coloring; your choice of color. The food coloring is water-based, so it will also sink and color the water that is now at the bottom of the container. Break an Alka-seltzer tablet into a few small pieces, and drop them in the container one at a time.

Watch your lava lamp erupt into activity! As the reaction slows down, simply add more Alka-seltzer.

Make coffee filter colorfully flower.
Long island magic for kids. kids craft ideas with long island'

 Materials.

Coffee filter, different colors of washable markers, plate, water, water dropper, or teaspoon. To make the flower you will need thin wire and floral tape.

What to do

Start by flattening a coffee filter on a plate or other easy to clean surface. With the washable marker draw thick lines of circles about halfway between the middle and edge. You can use one color, alternate colors, or even create a few circles instead.  There are no rules, except to ensure lots of white space is left to allow the colors to spread.

Now add about a teaspoon of water to the middle of the coffee filter. As the water moves through the paper it will spread the colors out. You will have beautiful watercolored paper. Let it dry completely.

To make the flower. Take your coffee filter and grab it in the middle, roll and bunch it to gather it up and form a stem. Wrap the wire around the stem tightly to secure it. Wrap the floral tape around the wire. Now fluff up your flower and enjoy.

Making pretty crystal ornaments.

Making pretty hand-made crystal ornaments, with Long Islands balloon twisters.

Before making these with your children

The ornaments look like candy so make sure your children know they

CAN NOT be eaten.

Materials.  Borax, Hot Water, Pipe Cleaners, different Shaped Cookie Cutters, Thin Ribbon or String, Popsicle Sticks, Mason Jars, or any jar with a wide opening and holds more than 2 cups of water.

What to do

Start by making different shapes with the pipe cleaners. It may be easier to use small cookie cutters as a guide. Cut excess pipe cleaner.

Tie the ribbon onto the shape. Hang the string over a popsicle stick, and dangle the shapes inside jars. For best results, two shapes work best. Make sure the shapes dangle freely without touching the bottom of the jar, the sides, or each other. Mix equal parts boiling water and borax.  Pour mixture into the jars until the tops of the stars are covered. The crystals will grow on the ribbon as well, so fill the jars up to the shapes.

Just in case anything spills,  clean up very quickly or you will grow crystals on your countertop. Please be careful borax is abrasive. I would recommend putting jars on a cookie sheet or plastic table cloth.  You will see them crystalizing in a few hours, for best results keep overnight. Take out of the jar and lay them out on a paper towel to dry.

They look so pretty hanging in the window or tree.
